HETAS Public

The benefits of becoming a HETAS Registered installer are:-

Registered installers are trained and assessed as competent in the areas of work they are registered for. This is something that Registered installers use to market their skills to the customer who wants a safe, good quality and compliant job

Registered Installers can self certificate their work using HETAS Certificates of Compliance. A copy is given to the customer, one is kept by the installer and the 3rd is passed to HETAS so that we can Notify the Local Authority (where applicable). In England & Wales this allows registered installers to charge customers for the certification at a reasonable rate whilst saving the customer from having to apply to their Local Authority for a building Notice which could cost from £60 to £300. Non-registered installers cannot self-certificate and notify via HETAS so their services are likely to be much more expensive than the registered installer. If they are not registered and do not apply for a building notice, they are breaking the law and risking prosecution for themselves and their customers.

HETAS is the ONLY competent persons scheme specializing in solid fuel and wood biomass installation

The HETAS scheme covers the range of installation work that an installer may be involved with in respect of solid fuels, wood biomass etc

Registered Installers have access to technical and regulations support provided by HETAS and its partners in the industry

In the rare event that there are complaints about matters of safety or compliance with Building Regulations, a complaint can be made to HETAS and we will do our best to help resolve the problem by working with everyone involved to promote a fair and equitable outcome

HETAS publishes lists of approved appliances, fuels and equipment to help installers, specifiers and consumers in complying with Building Regulations and in choosing a suitable product

Lists of installers, sweeps, flue specialists and maintenance companies are made available to Consumers and the trade via the HETAS Guide and Web site.
HETAS continue to work hard for the industry in the three key areas of assisting with setting standards (BS and EN) and working with Government on Regulations for solid mineral and wood biomass, clean air etc; approving appliances and equipment; and registering businesses and people who carry out work on solid fuel and wood appliances, flues, chimneys and installations across UK.

HETAS has just released the 14th edition of its Official Guide to Approved Solid Fuel Products and Services for 2007. This publication is essential reading for anyone involved in the sales, installation, service, design or specification of solid fuel and wood burning appliances and systems. The Guide is being distributed free to solid fuel installers, sweeps, manufacturers, suppliers, fuel suppliers etc who appear in the guide and are therefore Approved or Registered. It has also been sent out free of charge to local authority building control departments, stove shops and builder’s merchants.

The HETAS guide fulfils a number of important objectives including:

 • • Ensuring that Registered installers, sweeps and specialists are promoted to the trade and via the trade to the public
 • • Ensuring that Approved products such as open fires, room heaters, boilers, and cookers, chimney lining/relining systems and CO detectors are promoted to the trade and via the trade to the public
 • • Ensuring that information on approved products, fuels and efficiencies is widely available to specifiers, architects, designers, energy rating personnel and Government in respect of Building Regulations to ensure that all concerned have the information they require to calculate under SAP and SEDBUK energy rating systems and to advise on efficiency issues
 • • Providing information about the correct installation and safety in use of solid fuel heating, recommended fuels, proper annual maintenance, Approved sweeps etc both to the buying public and to the trade.
