We are the official body recognised by Government to approve biomass and solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services including the registration of competent installers and servicing businesses.

Key Objectives

HETAS has designed the Approved Retailer certification with three key objectives in mind. We believe these requirements should be at the core of any good solid fuel stove or fuel retailers service provision. These objectives are:

tick32-1  Trained staff in the showroom

HETAS will be ensuring that Approved Retails have at least one HETAS trained member of staff in the showroom available to advise on a number of key issues ranging from maintenance of an appliance through to issues such as the risks of carbon monoxide and government regulations.

Customeras can rest in the knowledge that when they enter a HETAS approved retail showroom, they are going to receive a top quality service via friendly, informative and safe guidance.

For showroom staff that have completed training to an equal or higher standard within the last five years, we will be looking to include these qualifications (pending HETAS approval) as part of the certification.

  Appliance Labelling

Customers are often looking for the best appliance at the best possible price. These days however, they are keen to purchase an appliance that meets efficiency targets and minimises their carbon footprint as well.

Part of the Approved Retailer certification is ensuring that all appliances in a showroom are labelled with all the vital information that a consumer may require. This includes:

stove[3]

Manufacturer & Model, Rated Output (kW, Nominal), Efficiency (%, Gross/Net), Fuel Type (e.g. multifiuel, woody log), Appliance Type (Dry/Wet), DEFRA Approved?, CE Marked?, HETAS Approved?

For Fuel:

Information will also be labelled on fuel that may be sold which includes wood, mineral fuel, chip and pellet. With more and more people using the wrong type of fuel for the appliance, this step is fundamental in ensuring appliances burn the cleanest fuel and give the appliance the longest lifespan. These include;

  app_label

Price, Accreditation Status, Country of Origin, Moisture content, kWhs (if possible), Solid Fuel Type, Pack Size, Length (for logs), Log Specied, Drying method of log

  Advice Sheets For Customers

HETAS has been working hard to create a series of advice sheets for customers to take away. These will be displayed in the showrooms of all Approved Retailers cover topics such as:

Carbon Monoxide

Wood Fuel Guide

Chimney Sweeping
