Our previous film covered where your Carbon Monoxide alarm can be fixed. However, no safety device is infallible. In the unlikely event that your alarm fails, or if you stay at a property without one, learn to recognise the early symptoms of Carbon Monoxide poisoning to allow you to get out of the property. Many of these symptoms can easily be confused with flu, viral infections or tiredness.
If you suspect a Carbon Monoxide escape:
- Close the appliance air controls
- Ventilate the area thoroughly Animate/write “open any doors and windows”
- And leave the property immediately.
Do not return until your appliance or boiler is extinguished and you have been told it is safe to do so. You must not use your appliance again until the cause of the spillage has been found and fixed. If you feel unwell, go to your doctor, call NHS Direct on 111 (0845 4647 in some areas) or if urgent, phone 999 for an ambulance.
