Chimney Fire Safety Week was introduced in 2009 and aims to raise awareness of good sweeping and maintenance practice, correct appliance use and making sure clean and appropriate quality fuel is used to avoid chimney fires.
Although there has generally been a reduction in nationwide chimney fires since Chimney Fire Safety Week was initiated, there were still 5,362 recorded chimney fires in the UK between April 2016 to March 2017 and 2520 recorded chimney fires in Ireland in 2016. Chimney Fire Safety Week 2018 intends to reach out to consumers throughout the awareness week.
