Head of Operations

HETAS is currently recruiting for a Head of Operations to oversee daily activities across the business. Responsibilities include contributing to the development, implementation, monitoring and review of business strategy, driving sales and controlling costs, overseeing customer service and implementing technology solutions. You should be a responsible leader with an analytical and strategic mind and have a broad knowledge of the business. You will be responsible for building motivated and high performing teams through effective leadership and line management. You will also be committed to productivity and compliance whilst valuing pragmatism and simplicity where appropriate.
Ultimately, the Head of Operations will ensure the organisation runs smoothly and that people can be productive.

Head of Operations Job Duties

  • Take responsibility and initiative in smooth running of business operations
  • Attends Board meetings to support the Directors and other senior management team members
  • Provide outstanding leadership to team members, including opportunities for coaching and development, to maximise work output and work quality
  • Lead the creation of a department strategic plan which complies with and enhances the company-wide strategic plan and business plan
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and that all expected standards are met
  • Provide effective team and project management duties, including overseeing project completion time lines, monitoring project costs, and ensuring client and stakeholder needs are met
  • Continuously reshape department best practices to provide highest client and stakeholder satisfaction
  • Liaise with other departments, including Finance, Business Development and Marketing, to ensure operations budgets and proper development plans meet department goals and contribute to growth.
  • Maintain strong relationships with any third-parties the business works with regularly, to ensure smooth procurement and delivery of products and services
  • Drive business goals
  • Lead quality systems and document control – evaluate and report on risks
  • Identify patterns and problem areas, and implement effective solutions to increase efficiency
  • Report regularly to CEO with completed on-budget and on-time projects and project outcomes
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients to drive sales and network with new clients

Skills and Qualifications

Degree or equivalent, 5+ years relevant Management experience, exceptional leadership skills, strong organisational skills; outstanding written and Verbal communication, strong client/stakeholder-facing skills, extensive management experience, team-oriented, project development, networking, decision making, coaching, motivating, results-oriented, sales.

This is a full time, permanent position based at the HETAS Head Office in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.

Head of Technical

About us

HETAS is the UK’s national organisation working for consumer safety and the wider public interest in safe, efficient and environmentally responsible use of biomass and other solid fuels. HETAS is a not-for-profit organisation, working closely with national and local government.

We are currently looking to recruit a Head of Technical Services to lead our technical and environmental work.

About the role

Reporting into the CEO, you will be part of the Senior Leadership Team and the organisation’s expert on technical matters; in relation to our purpose and objectives in the Biomass/Solid Fuel/Wood and associated technology sector. An influential and strategic thinker, you will have a strong and proven background in engaging with the sector; managing people and influencing.

Main duties of the role will include:

  • Managing the technical departments within HETAS (Technical & Standards; Product Approval; Training)
  • Lead or attend technical committees taking an appropriate role for HETAS
  • Plan and budget for involvement in future technical, safety and environmental areas as required.
  • Consult with, and update other staff and stakeholders.
  • Lead business planning for the technical areas and contribute to overall planning
  • Operate as part of the senior management team and an ambassador for the HETAS brand
  • Deputise for the CEO as needed and appropriate.

More generally, we require the successful individual to develop a strong understanding of the organisation and industry; and how the decisions of HETAS relate to outcomes in the industry.

Candidates will need to demonstrate the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • A detailed knowledge of industry safety, environmental standards, regulations and Government/EU proposals.
  • Highly competent, with appropriate qualifications and relevant experience.
  • An understanding of products and technology in the sector.
  • Technical ability including relevant skills in mathematics.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a constructive, supportive team member.
  • Able to develop a working knowledge of the Company’s operating systems and procedures.
