Spotlight on… A1 Flues
Our latest spotlight is taking us to 54,000 square feet of purpose-built workshop space in Boughton, Nottinghamshire to discover how A1 Flues have been commercial and domestic flue ventilation specialists for over 50 years.
Decades of excellence
Founded in 1973 by Colin Moir, A1 Flues have long outgrown the small sheet-metal workshop, becoming a nationally recognised market leader in the design, manufacture, installation, and maintenance of commercial and industrial chimney, flue, exhaust, and quench pipe vent systems.

Early success working on impressive projects such as Windsor Castle and Sandringham Estate led to the business being relocated to an old army Nissen hut in Boughton, allowing the company to continue its growth.
A1 Flues invested in itself as demand for stainless-steel flue systems grew across the UK, expanding its machinery, equipment, and vehicle stock in the 1980s. The company continued to grow and add more household names to its portfolio, completing work on major projects for firms such as Denby Pottery, Port Talbot Steelworks, and Rowntree’s.
The 1990s and 2000s saw a merger with Bridge Flue System Limited and the expansion of what remains the A1 Flues offices and manufacturing plant today, with 54,000 square feet of purpose-built space that houses precision engineering machinery and equipment, ensuring every project is completed to the highest standards. As the company celebrated its second and third decades of success, the original values of excellence, pride, passion and precision remained at the core of its work.
As we approach the A1 Flues of today, its clientele covers an entire range of sectors, from private, commercial, and distribution, even reaching defense industries. Repeated clients are the foundation of A1 Flues’ work – their dedicated service from start to finish of each project, including comprehensive aftercare, has allowed A1 Flues to amass a lengthy list of loyal clients that trust their expert knowledge.
After over 50 years of business, A1 Flues have an extensive track record of expertly completed projects, featuring names such as The Shard, King’s Cross Station, Chester Zoo, Twickenham, and Wembley Stadium.
