For this month’s spotlight, we’re travelling back to 1952 in Middleton, Manchester. The story of Percy Doughty begins with just three employees in a small shop, primarily serving local authority clients, selling solid fuel spares, appliances, and ironmongery. Now headquartered in Farnworth, Bolton, the Percy Doughty of the present is unrecognisable from its early days. Built on a foundation of over 70 years, the company is a combination of logistics, commercial, creative, technical, research & development, and customer service teams, with eight directors and 75 staff across two sites. Percy Doughty is a market leader in solid fuel spares, fireplaces, stoves, and accessories, with a product portfolio boasting a range of over 10,000 stock lines Home to Vision Fires, Penman, Qudos, Firebloom, and Gallery products, Percy Doughty supply the heating industry with high quality, superior craftsmanship and innovative products.

Introducing new product ranges and premium brands with industry-leading expertise, Percy Doughty has undergone a huge transformation over the last decade. Extending its capabilities alongside its people has helped drive business forward for the company; their product portfolio has continued to grow, spanning from high-end gas and electric appliances to the traditional products that were sold when the company was first established. People are at the heart of Percy Doughty; from customer service to the warehouse team, right through to the leadership team, every employee is empowered to excel. The team’s collective skills, knowledge, attitude, and creativity are vital to ensure Percy Doughty can continue to deliver a great service to all its customers.

Going forward, Percy Doughty is poised for substantial growth. With expansion into appliance manufacturing and the recent expansion of its bespoke made-to-measure services at their head office and Grangemouth branches, Percy Doughty are looking to continue their ongoing success. To meet the growing demands of the sector, they have recently recruited a number of key staff across the warehouse and logistic teams alongside specialist roles in marketing, finance, customer, service, and the technical team.

The last few years have also seen significant investment in the business, including a state-of-the-art appliance testing facility, a new fleet of branded vehicles, and new IT systems which include a fully integrated CRM system. These investments allow Percy Doughty to continue its focus on innovation, quality, and the design of efficient wood burning and multi-fuel appliances. Phase one of the expansion of their current warehousing facilities at the head office and logistics centre is also underway, with phase two starting in Spring 2024.

Percy Doughty’s commitment to excellence, strategic foresight, and the relentless pursuit of innovation positions us as a leader in the fireplace industry.
