Thank you to everyone who helped us to support Fire Kills’ Chimney Fire Safety Week 2023. The campaign week, which started on the 4th of September, was a great success with Fire and Rescue Services, Local Authorities, Trading Standards as well as registrants engaging with the campaign.

We saw hundreds of you make use of the campaign assets on your social media and continued our engagement with UK Fire and Rescue Services. With many sharing key messaging on their channels, like the National Fire Chiefs Council.

In addition to social media, we had press coverage from various titles, including Lincolnshire in Focus, The Pembroke Observer, Yorkshire Times, and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue.

We value any feedback we receive on the campaign assets and this year we created some Welsh language images, which we will be doing moving forward as it is essential that what we create is useful and inclusive. The success of Chimney Fire Safety Week would not have been possible without your support, so we appreciate everyone who engaged and continues to share the important campaign messages.

Chimney Fire Statistics

In England, a total number of 2,540 chimney fires occurred from April 2022 to March 2023. This number has declined by 2.71% compared to last year. We await published fire statistics from the Welsh and Scottish governments for the same period.

As we enter the heating season, it is vitally important that we all continue to share the important messages about chimney fire safety. Keep an eye on the HETAS social media channels for regular safety messages.
