In the recently published Environment Improvement Plan and supporting Revised UK National Air Pollution Control Programme government identified that Defra has also developed a dedicated communications campaign (Burn Better) targeted at domestic burners, to improve awareness of the environmental and public health impacts of burning and help reduce exposure to harmful pollution. This will also help raise awareness of efficient appliances and fuels that provide better heat with reduced emissions.

As mentioned in last month’s newsletter, HETAS has been supporting the Burn Better campaign. For this, HETAS has worked in partnership with Defra to sponsor video adverts on our Facebook and Instagram channels. These have again proven successful in helping the Burn Better message reach an extensive audience with post impressions on one video reaching almost 4,500,000.

The campaign has also secured coverage on Mumsnet and Dadsnet, including a quote from HETAS CEO Bruce Allen. These articles are aimed at stove users in these forums to ensure essential guidance is reaching the widest audience possible.

In the last twelve months we have seen an increasing number of website sessions across the HETAS website, with 2023 being our busiest March on record for sessions and pageviews. This is in part due to our regular newsletters to consumers, which includes necessary safety advice. The March edition was sent on 25th to over 36,000 recipients with the appropriate fuel for your log burner article receiving the most clicks and coming out as our top viewed page in March to date. The HETAS Advice Hub has an ever-growing number of articles, informing consumers on a range of topics to help them get the most from their stove at the same time as minimising their environmental impact.

It’s important that as an industry we continue to educate consumers in better fuels, cleaner appliances, regular maintenance, which will help them burn better and reduce their environmental impact. HETAS will continue to work to meet our organisational purpose of working together for a cleaner safer environment, with the help of you, our registered businesses.
