For our spotlight this month, we head to “the home of tiny wood stoves for small spaces and magical places”. Founded in 2009 and based in the beautiful countryside of Devon, Salamander Stoves is a family-run business specialising in the manufacturing and design of high-quality stoves, including their flagship stove, the Hobbit.

The vision of Salamander Stoves is to provide you with a high-quality stove that will give you years of long, trouble-free service, with every stove hand-finished, fettled and inspected at their Devon workshop. Originally designed to fit small household fireplaces in order to avoid removing original Victorian and Edwardian tiles or cast fire surrounds, due to the continued growth of the small spaces movement in recent years, championed by celebrities including George Clarke (think Amazing Spaces). Look closely and you will have seen the Hobbit feature on the show!

Following on from the huge success of the Hobbit multi-fuel stove, the team at Salamander developed a larger product, known as the Little Range Cook Stove, which offers the same benefits as their classic Hobbit stove combined with a substantially increased cooking potential.

The range of Salamander products now includes The Hobbit Stove, The Hobbit SE (specifically designed for installations where the space for a stove might be more limited) and The Little Range Cook Stove. The Hobbit SE and Little Range Cook Stove are Ecodesign and HETAS Cleaner Choice certified, meaning they meet both the current requirements for exemption and have attained listing on the DEFRA website, whilst also achieving at least a 50% improvement on current particulate limits for exemption, when measured using the more robust test methodology recognised within the UK.

Well over 10,000 of Salamander’s little stoves have been installed in small household fireplaces, cabins, horse boxes, shepherds’ huts, canal boats, camper vans and more, providing light and warmth to thousands of tiny homes and dwellings. With Salamander Stoves becoming such a popular choice for small spaces, they have put together a series of case studies to give you the inspiration you need for your tiny installation. From household fireplaces, shepherds’ huts, cabins, and studios through to canal boats, yurts and tents, all sorts of small spaces are covered in the case studies. For visual inspiration, head to Salamanders Instagram or Pinterest pages.

Not only can you buy wonderful stoves and ranges from Salamander Stoves, some helpful accessories for your tiny stove are also available, including the unique T1000 Small Stove Toasting Fork, a stove enclosure (perfect for installing your small wood burning stove into small spaces), a direct air kit and a stove top power generator. Also available is a range of cookware and hand axes, perfect for getting your firewood ready to burn. If you are thinking of the perfect gift for stove lovers for Christmas, look no further.

Salamander Stoves are available through their network of authorised dealers. Through their dealer network, you’ll receive expert advice on the range of Salamander Stoves, with many also providing an installation service. The stoves are also available in a range of colour combinations. Visit the Salamander Stoves website to find your local dealer.

The environment and charity are also vitally important to the people at Salamander Stoves. Working in partnership with TreeSisters, three trees are planted for every Hobbit or Little Range sold. TreeSisters work ethically to reforest and restore our planet. They also push for change, advocating for nature and inspiring everyone to reconnect and protect our natural world before it is too late. Through this partnership, thousands of trees have already been planted. In total TreeSisters have seen donations leading to nearly 28 million trees being funded.
