With Christmas done for another year we can now look forward to a busy 2019! This year has started with a continuation of last year, with stoves hitting the headlines once again. On Monday this week Defra published their Clean Air Strategy 2019 which clarifies the stances government will be taking to address air pollution.
The strategy looks at a range of actions to reduce emissions/pollution, including transport, the home, farming and industry, so it’s not just the stove and biomass industry in the spotlight. HETAS and Woodsure have been working with the Defra Air Quality team for some time now and we have a clear understanding of the reasoning behind the strategy.
It is pleasing to see that the strategy identifies the importance of using competent persons for the installation of appliances, stating that “using cleaner fuels, in a cleaner appliance which is installed by a competent person, knowing how to operate it efficiently, and ensuring that chimneys are regularly swept, will all make a big difference”.
Last year we published a “ban on stoves” article to tackle some of the misleading headlines generated in the press and consumers were flooding to the website this week to find out more about the governments announcement, while at the same time searching for installers, sweeps, appliances and fuels. In fact we had our busiest day ever on the website on Monday. We also published a summary of the Clean Air Strategy 2019 this week, you should have received that by email this week and it’s also included in this month’s newsletter.
Along with our PR team at Golley Slater we have been liaising with press at a national and local level to share factual information on the Clean air Strategy and what it means for stove users, both now and in the future. We will continue to work hard to promote the positive messages to consumers.
The key points of the strategy are highlighted in this article, please share with your customers to reassure them. We want our registrants to continue promoting the message of a safe appliance, installed by a HETAS installer, used in the right way, being fed with the right fuel and regularly serviced and maintained to achieve the best performance. Our newsletters and bulletins contain a wealth of information for you to keep consumers informed, and for woodfuel the HETAS/Woodsure Ready to Burn bulletin informs you on the importance of the right firewood.
We will keep you updated on developments, we are expecting the next announcement on fuels in the near future, so make sure you keep an eye on your inbox, the HETAS website and social media channels.
Keep up the great work.
